With over 25 years of experience of filming for all the major broadcasters, I continue to work on landmark documentaries with high production values. I have the unique ability to draw on my training on film and transfer my skills to today's demanding schedules.

I began my career shooting news on reversal film stocks, which requires the ability to shoot sequences quickly and efficiently without wasting time and film.

I enjoy the collaborative process of film making, I am a natural team player. As well as working with emerging talent I have worked with the same experienced directors on different films throughout my career.

I have embraced the technological changes in the industry and have invested in the latest camera and lenses. Working with sliders, mini-jibs, time-lapse, gimbles, gopros and drones to add value to the observational camerawork which is still at the heart of any production.

The discipline of listening to the contributor and being able to react instinctively is the key to the craft of good camerawork and I believe is demonstrated in my photography.

In my career so far, I have been the DOP on landmark series and one off documentaries including the following:

The Promised Land

A series about the previously undocumented Great Black Migration of the mid-20th century and how it changed America. Portrayed through the voices and music of the people who sought freedom from the Deep South in the cities of America’s North. Listed by Time Magazine among the top ten programmes of 1995; winner (Best Series) at the Chicago Film festival; nominated for three Emmys. Directed by Edmund Coulthard and Nick Godwin.

Beloved Country

A series for the BBC about the creation of the New South Africa. This series looks at the hopes and fears for the New Country from five very contrasting perspectives, from the gangs of Cape Town to the rugby playing, citrus farmers in Natal. Directed by Chris Terrill and Dan Reed.

The System

A series about the machinations of the Leviathan that is the Department of Social Security. With exclusive access to ministers we see how they tackle the reduction of the 90 billion pound budget. Directed by Peter Dale, nominated for a Bafta and winner of RTS and Grierson awards.

The Siege at Beslan

This film uses testimony from eyewitnesses, survivors and security services, combined with video and audio archive to present the fullest account of what happened at Beslan.

The film examines the background to the events of Beslan. It also looks at the Russian state’s reaction to the atrocity and the motivation of the hostage takers. Beslan School Siege also documents how a small town is coming to terms with the loss of its children. Directed by Richard Alwyn and winner of The Prix Italia for Best Documentary.

The Grave

This harrowing film follows the macabre work of forensic archaeologists as they unearth evidence of one of the worst atrocities carried out during the war in former Yugoslavia.

In 1991, after the town of Vukovar was ‘liberated’, it was ordered that the local hospital was to be evacuated. The injured men were separated from the women and children and were never seen again. Their families could not believe that all the men had been executed. Indeed, the film movingly shows how some families still hope for a reunion with their menfolk. Sadly, the horrific reality is brought to light with the exhumation of bandaged and battered corpses. Directed by Belinda Giles this film won A Bafta for best documentary and a nomination for Best Photography.

The Boy Whose Skin Fell Off

A film documenting the last few months of Jonny Kennedy’s life as he tells his life story of how he coped living with Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa. An uplifting, confounding and provocatively humorous story of a singular man. Directed by Patrick Collerton and winner of Emmy, Bafta, RTS and Grierson awards.
